Level-Up with the Libraries and TLT: 2021 Reading Day Workshops In-Person

Come learn with the University Libraries and Teaching & Learning Technologies as they provide educational opportunities for University faculty and instructors during the 2021 Reading Days! This series is designed to enhance teaching and learning, teach new research skills, and help users get the most out of WebCampus.

Instructors are encouraged to attend a single session or seven! 

Wednesday, March 10th, 2021

9:00am-9:50am: WebCampus Communication Tools

  • WebCampus offers a number of communication tools to connect with students, including some that are not as obvious as messages and announcements. In this workshop, we will learn about the tools and how best to put them to work to promote communication in your class.

10:00am-10:50am: Turnitin and Plagiarism Detection

  • This workshop is geared for instructors--professors, lecturers & TAs--who have taken WebCampus Basics.

11:00am-11:50am: Giving Effective - and Efficient! - Feedback to Student Writing Online

  • This workshop will provide information on how to best provide feedback to student work using tools within WebCampus. We will discuss some considerations in determining how much, when and how to provide feedback, using tools available.

12:00pm-12:50pm: Tools, tips, and tricks brownbag: Share how you've put the tools available at UNR to work in your teaching

  • Many instructors have been challenged to use new tools in their teaching in the last year. What are some successes you've had with the tech tools available at UNR? Share your experiences, and learn how peers have been using tools in their own classes.

1:00pm-1:50pm: Open Education 101: Teaching with Affordable and Open Educational Resources (OERs)

  • We'll provide an introduction to Open Educational Resources (OERs) and other low and no-cost textbook options, followed by Q&A time.

2:00pm-2:50pm: Photoshop for Academics: Open Q&A session with demonstrations

  • Do you photos and charts have to have a specific color or profile? How do you add text to your images? Any and all questions on Photoshop welcomed. When possible, demonstrations will be shown.

3:00pm-3:50pm: WebCampus Rubrics and Outcomes Tools

  • A rubric is an assessment tool to communicate expectations. Outcomes in WebCampus can be used to track learning mastery in a course and a program. In this session we will discussion how these tools can help you effectively grading and improving student learning.

3:00pm-3:50pm: Level Up Your Zoom Presence: A look at equipment and camera techniques

  • Join the library's @One team who will go over basic camera and lighting techniques as well as lendable technology available to improve your virtual classroom and video conferencing.
