Level-Up with the Libraries and TLT: 2021 Reading Day Workshops In-Person

Come learn with the University Libraries and Teaching & Learning Technologies as they provide educational opportunities for University faculty and instructors during the 2021 Reading Days! This series is designed to enhance teaching and learning, teach new research skills, and help users get the most out of WebCampus.

Instructors are encouraged to attend a single session or seven!

Tuesday, March 9th, 2021

9:00am-9:50am: Getting the Most Out of WebCampus

  • Do you have some experience working with WebCampus, but want to learn more about the more advanced tools and methods to use in your teaching? This workshop will cover settings and uses that you may not be aware are available, in the areas of communication, assignments and assessments, and grading. This session will also provide time to answer faculty questions about specific needs or issues.

10:00am-10:50am: Peer Review in WebCampus

  • Discuss the strategies of using Peer Assessment, practice how to set up, review and grade a peer review assignment in your course on WebCampus, and view the workflow of a peer review assignment as a student.

10:00am-10:50am: Library Resources for Digitizing Real World Objects and Environments

  • Overview of various 3D digitization tools for research or preservation. Different tools are ideal based on physical scale of the object/environment, the fidelity of the output, and the distribution methods. After an overview, we can tailor discussion around specific research ideas from participants. 360 Video, Photogrammetry, LIDAR, and 3D Scanning

11:00am-11:50am: Inclusive Instruction with Universal Design for Learning

  • Learn about Universal Design for Learning (UDL): a set of guidelines and strategies to guide more inclusive teaching practices.

12:00pm-12:50pm: Tools, Tips, and Tricks Brownbag: Share how you've put the tools available at UNR to work in your teaching

  • Many instructors have been challenged to use new tools in their teaching in the last year. What are some successes you've had with the tech tools available at UNR? Share your experiences, and learn how peers have been using tools in their own classes.

1:00pm-1:50pm: Photoshop for Academics: Open Q&A session with demonstrations

  • Do you photos and charts have to have a specific color or profile? How do you add text to your images? Any and all questions on Photoshop welcomed. When possible, demonstrations will be shown.

2:00pm-3:15pm: ArcGIS StoryMaps: The Basics

  • Learn how to create inspiring and interactive digital stories by combining narrative text, geospatial data, maps, and other multimedia content to communicate information through engaging and user-friendly web mapping applications.

3:00pm-3:50pm: Designing Research Posters for On-Site or Virtual Presentations
